What Does it Mean Make Sanity Your Goal?

What Does it Mean Make Sanity Your Goal?

GoalWhat does it mean to make sanity your goal and why would that be at the top of my list of life hacks for people who love the reality challenged? In a world where the definition of is has been called into question defining terms right out of the box seems like the best bet to avoid confusion and more to the point create clarity.

Here are my working definitions of the terms I am going to use.

Sanity The ability to think and behave in a normal rational manner sound mental health.

Rational  based on or in accordance with reason or logic.”

Mind the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.

Realitythe world or the state of things as they exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them.

Allow me to simplify the definition of mind as the interface of the “I” with reality, and clarify the definition of reality as the agreed upon acceptance of existence. Since three people don’t’ see a picture of a dress as the same color, how we can know the state of things as they existence without some agreement? Now, that that all the housekeeping is out of the way, on to the answers.

In my experience, the mentally ill people I have loved have been exceptionally bright, articulate and compelling in almost all phases of their mood disorders. Granted some moods are more of the above than others, but it is very very easy to get sucked into the reality de jour, it’s subtle.

For example: When your loved one says, “My doctor is trying to poison me.” Of course, you don’t believe it. Nonetheless, a seed of doubt as been planted. Over time, you start noticing little things that might lead you to believe well, maybe the doctor doesn’t have my honey’s best interest in mind after all. I’m here to tell you if you don’t already know that kind of insidious second-guessing causes a whole lot of stress.

When you set sanity as your goal, and you have trained yourself to check in with your goal whenever doubt and confusion arise you are ahead of the game. Back to our example: Your Honey: “My doctor is trying to poison me.

”You: Hmm how sane is that? Why would the doctor want to poison honey? Well, of course, no doctor would.

That thought process takes longer to read than to think. The thinking of it trains your mind to deal with these kinds of issues in a like manner in the future. Check in with your goal of sanity enough times you will make it second nature and will have eliminated a big stressor in your life which is why it is on the top of my list of hacks.
